Description of the event
Vladimír’s bookshop Serius and the PLAC association, with financial support from the Czech Architecture Foundation and the City of Jablonec nad Nisou, cordially invite you to the 73rd lecture in the Printed Architecture series, which will take place on Wednesday 17 June from 6.30 pm.
Our guest will be Petr Agha, who, as head of the team of authors, will present the publication The Right to Public Space.
We take public space for granted — until we realise that not everyone has equal access to it. Streets, squares, parks and social media are not neutral spaces. They reflect power, rules, money, technology and ideas about who has the right to be seen, heard and taken seriously.
The bookThe Right to Public Spaceasks what happens when shared spaces begin to close off, be privatised or come under ever-greater control. It examines the transformation of cities, the possibilities for protest, the limits of freedom of expression, and how digital platforms are reshaping public debate. It also demonstrates why some voices in society are heard more loudly than others, and how easily certain groups can be pushed to the margins.
The book offers a fresh perspective on the places we use every day, yet rarely consider who actually shapes them. It is an invitation to debate freedom, democracy and the right to participate in the world we share.
Petr Agha, LL.M., Ph.D.,is a lawyer and political theorist who explores how law, politics and power influence everyday life in society. He is based at the Faculty of Law, Charles University. His work focuses on democracy, human rights and the transformation of public space.
The publication was produced by a team of authors: Petr Agha (ed.), Václav Bělohradský, Jan Géryk, Michael Hauser, Zora Hesová, Jan Hořeňovský, Jan Kosek, Petr Kratochvíl, Markéta Štěpáníková.
