Book launch: Stories from the Jizera Mountains in comics

Please accept our warm invitation to the Scheybal House, where on Tuesday, 2 December, at 5 p.m., we will launch the comic book Stories from the Jizera Mountains in Comics together with the authors, writer Radek Drahý and illustrator Tomáš Chlud.

The history of the Jizera Mountains is extremely rich, full of changes, tension and unusual events. Through eleven chronologically arranged stories, the book captures key moments in the history of this region. It offers readers not only entertainment but also education. It reveals what the people who once lived here were like, how difficult life in the mountains was, what the local inhabitants lived on, and what relations existed between neighbours.

The authors introduce readers to the story of the Jizerky settlement, the Hejnice Madonna, Dr Kittel, the happy land/Terra Felix, the Štěpánka lookout tower, the Jizera Mountains forest, the broken dam, the industrialist Liebig, tourism in the Jizera Mountains, the teacher Leutelt and nature conservation.

The book complements a series of comics about the Czech mountains, which already includes Stories from the Krkonoše Mountains in Comics (2021), Stories from the Šumava Mountains in Comics (2022) and Stories from the Orlické Mountains in Comics (2023), published by the Vrchlabí publishing house Green Mango, s. r. o.

You will be able to purchase the new book on site, and in the following days at our tourist information centres in the Scheybal House and the town hall.
