Christmas with Magdaléna 2025

In this year's project by the Magdaléna Dance and Movement Studio, Christmas Story – From St. Nicholas to the Three Kings – 20th-century folk poetry and music as a source of inspiration for contemporary dance, we have chosen Advent as the main theme.

For centuries, folk poetry in Bohemia and Moravia was part of the everyday life of rural people. It originated in its original form in the peasant environment and from there it influenced other strata of the nation not only as a source of artistic inspiration, but also as the lifeblood of the process of national self-awareness. At a time when songs still lived inconspicuously among the common people, they began to be collected by national revivalists, who left us real treasures in their collections. Treasures full of simple, crystalline poetry and musically refined, inspiring melodies. The lyrics and melodies are part of our nation's cultural heritage.

Folk poetry is slowly disappearing from our children's readers. This poetry and music by our contemporary composers is a great inspiration for dance creations for children and young people, and children accept it quite spontaneously.
