Memorial day of Sokol

The Memorial Day of the Sokol Association is a tribute to the members of the Sokol Association, who sacrificed their lives in the fight for freedom, democracy and independence during the almost 160 years of the association's existence. Since 2019, it has been included in the calendar of important days of the Czech Republic. The date of October 8 was chosen as a reminder of the tragic events of 1941. On the night of October 7 to 8, 1941, the Gestapo arrested 1,500 Sokol officials from headquarters, counties and larger units as part of "Operation Sokol". They were tortured, imprisoned, deported to concentration camps. Fully 93% of them perished by the end of the war. As part of this year's event, a discussion, film screening and a commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of T. J. Sokol Jablonec n. Nisou are planned in the cafe on the premises of the sokolovna.
