THE FAROE ISLANDS AND GREENLAND – Tomáš Hájek

The cold North Atlantic is home to, amongst others, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, Danish overseas territories with extensive autonomy. The Faroe Islands consist of a group of 18 islands connected by tunnels, bridges and ferries. There are more sheep than people living here, and nowhere is more than 5 km from the ocean. Greenland is the world’s largest island, and 80 per cent of its land area lies beneath the ice. Both destinations can be visited by ordinary tourists. You don’t need to be part of an Arctic expedition, nor do you need to be in top physical condition. However, you do need to love the North in all its glory!  Whilst in the Faroe Islands you’ll be amazed by the stunning bays, colourful fishing villages and the green carpet of grass that covers the entire islands in summer, in Greenland you’ll be captivated above all by the fantastic glaciers of incredible sizes and shapes.
