Description of the event

A funeral director, a care worker and a curious mortal, all in one place

During All Souls’ Day, we’d like to invite you to reflect, share, and have a laugh. You might be surprised to learn that even people whose professions we wouldn’t normally come into contact with experience humorous situations and are, in fact, just people. Mortals like the rest of us.

Our talks are an invitation to a warm gathering, open discussion and conversations about topics we may be afraid to talk about, even though they are a natural part of our lives.

What lies ahead when someone close to us dies? What is good to know and arrange in advance? How do funeral services actually work? And what help and support might we need after the loss of a loved one?

You’ll have two unique opportunities to meet people who are often present during the most intimate moments of human life. But also those who speak openly about death and dying, even though it isn’t their profession.

Who will be guiding you through the sessions?

Ladislav Kopal– funeral director and owner of a funeral home Marie Bezděkovská– end-of-life care guide and bereavement counsellor Martina Píšová– a curious mortal and founder of the (P)o Životě festival

What question would you ask an undertaker? What interests you about the funeral industry? What should we know before we encounter death first-hand? And what might help and support look like following a loss?

With respect and humility towards the subject, the professions involved and the stories we experience day in, day out, we warmly invite you to a gathering aimed at breaking down taboos, offering a different perspective and providing a space for questions, reflection and relief.

After all, it is possible to talk about death, dying and the funeral industry openly, humanely, kindly and with a sense of perspective. Come and experience it for yourself.

Who is behind these discussions?

The discussions are organised by Marie Bezděkovská, an end-of-life care guide and bereavement counsellor, and founder of thePALIA POINT project. This project is dedicated to raising awareness and providing education in the field of palliative care and support for the bereaved, particularly in collaboration with health and social services.

The talks are organised under the patronage of Anna Václavíková Provazníková, Regional Councillor for Social Affairs.
