Slam poetry is increasingly occupying the media and cultural space, but what is it about? It's hard to describe. Some call it the poetry of the moment, others rhyming stand-up. What everyone can agree on is that the basis of slam poetry is the text and the performer who delivers the text, as authentically and suggestively as possible, because it is first and foremost a competition. The competition, the course and end of which is decided primarily by the audience, who make up the jury. It is thus an unprecedentedly interactive art discipline.
