REVISION

The REVIZE exhibition brings the JABLONEC 2026 International Triennial of Glass and Jewellery to a close. It demonstrates how the State Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou has long collaborated with art schools and supported young artists who bring fresh perspectives to traditional craftsmanship and design.

The REVIZE project brings together historical costume jewellery from the museum’s collections with contemporary designer jewellery. It was created by students from five Czech and international art colleges. They drew inspiration from selected museum exhibits from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, which they reinterpreted in the form of original wearable objects.

The designers created a series of prototypes utilising contemporary materials, technologies and unconventional approaches to design. The resulting works transcend the boundaries of a mere fashion accessory and often reflect the designers’ personal experiences, emotions and relationship to the historical legacy of Czech costume jewellery.

“We didn’t want the students to create replicas of historical objects. We were interested in how they would interpret their stories, aesthetic qualities and technological possibilities, and how they would bring them into the present day. The results surprised us with their boldness, playfulness and depth. It turned out that historical costume jewellery can still be a living source of inspiration for today’s generation of designers,” says the exhibition’s curator, Kateřina Nora Nováková.

The exhibition demonstrates that museum collections are not merely an archive of the past, but also a living part of our cultural heritage. They can actively influence contemporary creativity and inspire a new generation of artists and designers. “We are delighted that our museum can be a place where tradition meets innovation and where new ideas for the future of Czech glass and costume jewellery are born,” says museum director Milada Valečková.

The exhibition premiered in June in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, where it was on display until 25 September. The official opening in Jablonec nad Nisou will take place at the State Museum of Glass and Costume Jewellery on Thursday 22 October, and the exhibition will remain open until September next year.
