Description of the event
The fourth largest island in the world, situated approximately 400 kilometres east of Mozambique in Africa, has both much and little in common with the African mainland. It broke away from the mainland almost 100 million years ago, meaning that the evolution of its fauna and flora took place separately, which is why there is a huge number of endemic species here. The most famous are undoubtedly the lemurs, of which over a hundred species live here, including the world-famous ‘King Lemur’. Life in Madagascar is not easy for either locals or tourists; this is ‘true, rugged’ Africa, where the state of the roads is very poor, making travel over longer distances highly complicated and time-consuming, and certainly not suitable for everyone. However, it offers a wealth of unforgettable experiences and encounters with wildlife that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
As my main speciality is underwater photography, we naturally couldn’t miss out on exploring the underwater world in Madagascar either. We went diving in the north-west near the island of Nosy Be, where the most interesting sites with rich marine life are found. So once again, you can look forward to some fascinating photos and diving experiences.
