Description of the event
Barbora Křivská naturally oscillates between drawing, painting, textiles and glass; in her work, she manages to move elegantly, almost imperceptibly, between the various media. This disciplinary permeability allows her to question what a painting, tapestry or vase might signify in contemporary art. All her works, however, retain a visible trace of their creation – they do not conceal their origins in the slow, concentrated process of manual labour. The craftsmanship, which is strongly associated with the artist, is thus evident not only in her choice of materials and techniques, but also in her very approach to themes and images. Thematically, Barbora Křivská’s work repeatedly returns to seemingly mundane motifs and situations associated with the landscape. In her works, the landscape appears as an endless source of inspiration, but also as the very origin of life and the foundation of human perception. The simplicity of these motifs also reflects the artist’s affinity with the rural environment and her sensitive attention to the small, often overlooked details of everyday life. Beneath the calm surface of the works, however, lies a quiet, personal account of intimate experiences.
