Discussion: 125 years of trams in Jablonec

The Jablonec narrow-gauge railway played a key role in the industrial development of the town. It was not only used to transport people, but also freight and mail. Specially modified trams served as mobile post boxes, and freight cars enabled the export of Jablonec goods all over the world. It was not a street tram in today's sense, but rather a miniature railway with its own stations, sidings and switches.

Did you know, for example, that on the line from Jablonec to Janov, the gradient on what is now Kubelkova Street reached 108‰? This is comparable to the steepest tram lines in Linz or Lisbon – a real technical curiosity! In 1906, a special passing loop was even built to connect the siding leading to the dam construction site – proof of the versatile use of this unique transport network.
