Description of the event
A Belgian activist group is seeking to legalise the composting of human bodies as an environmentally friendly alternative to burial. This method is not yet legal in Belgium or any other European Union country.
The idea of composting human bodies emphasises its spiritual and psychological dimension. Composting allows death to be perceived as part of the natural cycle of life. It brings comfort to the bereaved that their deceased loved ones are still present in their lives, for example in the form of a tree that grows from the compost.
