NISA FACTORY
Janovská 132/39, 46604 Jablonec nad Nisou – Mšeno nad Nisou
Description of the place
The former Herzig factory, dating from 1798, is one of the landmarks of the border region between Mšeno nad Nisou and Rýnovice in Jablonec nad Nisou. Textile production was replaced by costume jewellery production in the last century. Thanks to an enthusiasm for history and tradition, the magnificent industrial spaces are being transformed into a centre for contemporary art, science and technology, a base for a bead production museum, creative workshops and art studios with a programme for schools and the general public, including excursions to contemporary glass bead production. The permanent exhibition of glass beads and costume jewellery pays tribute to regional craftsmanship and tradition. Here, the history and present of this unique field meet. Both historical and contemporary glassmaking machines are on display.
The Nisa Factory Gallery was opened for exhibition purposes in December 2021 in the space of a former spinning mill and, with its 800 m2, is a generous open space. The gallery aims to present mainly contemporary art in regularly held exhibitions.
