Description of the place
Dům česko-německého porozumění in Rýnovice is a cultural monument. The building from the second half of the 17th century is one of the oldest buildings in Jablonec nad Nisou. The object of folk architecture was saved from demolition by Franz Rieger, a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany and a native of Lukášov.
Since 1998, the Czech-German meeting centre has been located in the building. The gallery, with a cafe, provides space for meetings, open dialogue, the presentation of Czech-German culture, popularising historical topics, and cooperation with partner cities.
The house organizes about ten gallery exhibitions a year. Its program also includes German language courses for children, beginners, and advanced students, as well as lectures, literary evenings, and concerts. Over 4,000 people visit Riegr's house annually.
